Scary.

Soooo Scary.

Well and I just found out that we sent 9, only 9 helicopters to India and Pakistan to help with the latest earthquake. You'd think we'd be a little more cautious regarding our karma these days.

Donations for the South Asia earthquakes have been really low, too, according to the papers. Methinks that, because of Katrina, everybody's just strapped.

Hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis . . . kinda makes ya wanna move inland. What's the natural disaster factor in New Mexico?

Yeah, the world is tapped right now. But you'd think as a country, we would...I dunno, give back a little.

Natural disaster factor in New Mexico is very low from what I understand, MUCH lower than Seattle. I must admit, it's scaring me a little having you guys up there, what with all the shit going down lately. I try to tell myself I'm being silly, but it doesn't help much. Too many worst case scenarios come to life.

Yeah, it's definitely something I think about. It seems like all the arts and culture centers in the U.S.--possibly in the world--are on the coasts, and in zones susceptible to hurricanes (back east), earthquakes and tsunamis (here, California, presumably Oregon).

On the other hand, Montana (and presumably Canada, Alaska, the northern midwest) has morbidly cold winters, the lower portion of the midwest has tornadoes. There's always risk, I suppose.

So I ask you both, what is the risk in Utah?

Duh . . . the religious right (even if evangelicals don't like Mormons any more than they like Wiccans and Buddhists)!

Seems we've got some of them hiding everywhere, though . . . except, for the most part, on the urban, quake-prone west coast. You see the dilemma.

They have earthquakes in Utah. Not the mother-shakers they can get in Cali, but as we all know how sharp the utahns are, I seem to remember certain chemical plants and weapons depots located on some pretty serious faults. Really, New Mexico is your best bet by far. ;)

I was over-generalizing on the not so sharp utahns there, wasn't I? I'm sure there are many, many, razor sharp individuals in utah (Becca, Katester, Paul and Jen to name a few), but they do seem to eventually flee, in my experience, and tend to not be the ones making large scale decisions for the rest of us.

There are plenty of sharp cookies in Utah. That said, you and I both lived there for a long time, so I think there is a little bit of generalization that is allowed.
